Lying low up high
Namche Bazar is a lovely little crossroads town in the Sagarmatha National Park. It’s up 3400 metres.
There is a market once a week and the rest of the time traders sell the usual stuff to trekkers- trinkets, artwork, traditional clothing, odd food and an incredible array of hiking gear and labeled outdoor clothes - all fake I suppose. There are cafes and bars but the season hasn’t yet begun so everything is very quiet right now. Peace for the locals before the onslaught begins. It’s a pretty nice place to spend some time, and luckily we have lots.
Getting up here nearly killed us and staying here a while will probably save us.
We were not prepared for how really difficult altitude can make things these days. All bets are off on our previous physical jaunts and shows of stamina - it’s seems the insidious effects of age that we so staunchly deny are giving us a little shoulder tap.
But of course, we aren’t giving in- we are just lying in our beds, taking the drugs and waiting until we adjust to the altitude. Actually, we don’t see anyone as old as us here, perhaps this is why??
So currently not much to report - I finally found something decent to eat- a kind of Sherpa chicken broth - at last - I’ve not been enjoying the potatoes five ways diet!
And Ann managed to score some moisturiser - small pleasures.
Namaste . L
