Pear Chutney  

The pear chutney goes well with cheese,

Sweet and sour.

And the green apple - new season- is crisp and tart.

I slice the apple in thin perfect crescents

 This hot night - paused  - the air sullen

A black cape

My aloneness sticks to me.

I eat the apple and the cheese - slice by slice,

One by one.
