Rambo Dolls
I would never have imagined that my delicate little daughter would have turned into this Trojan powerhouse who can walk 30k and then rock up to the petrol station in her black backpack and black short shorts and order a vino tinto in Spanish. And then sit down on the plastic chairs in the forecourt and drink it all.
We have adventures every day - some good - some not so good. But Laura always makes the best of every situation. She turns out to be very brave and have a level of fortitude that you just don’t learn at a private school. It must have been there all along.
We have walked well over 30kms today through the forests, steep hills and rolling farmlands and made it to an amazing fishing village with the worst albergue known to man. It is squishy, dirty and we are surrounded by men- one of whom appears to have a nasty cold- don’t bring your bugs round us Rambo dollies. The last thing we need is to get sick.
We are on the countdown now with under 300km to go.
We love every day and every new experience.
Tonight we had a fantastic pilgrim’s meal - three courses of meat and carbs- each one delicious but I am wearing all these carbs round my middle like a belt- how do the Spanish do it?
We are both like well-oiled machines - eat the carbs and walk on.
There is a different mind set that you just need to walk a long time to achieve. It is not a matter of spending all day having meaningful thoughts as you walk, it is more a matter of emptying your mind of anything. It’s peaceful.
Now, barring trips, slips and falls or other unforeseen events, we know we will make it.
