Dangerous DIY

Dangerous DIY

It turns out that the hair curling is not for me. Despite my aspirations to a perky curly poodle look, it seems I am doomed to return to the droopy old cocker spaniel. At least you will all recognise me when you see me -if you ever see me again that is. It feels as though this might go on forever.

So in the light of my hair curling fail, I am now turning to the DIY.

As I leant over the tree tops with the long-handled clippers this afternoon, chopping away the branches that support the deserted tui feeder, I reflected on the news story about ACC getting swamped with DIY disaster claims. From the top rung of the ladder, I could understand why!

The brutal  sounds of nail guns and chain saws and other limb severing machines are savaging lots of neighbourhoods. It’s not at all surprising of course. Let’s face it, when you put a whole population of men back home and in the sole company of their wives and children, a vast proportion will run to the shed. And as we also know,  when men run, trouble follows closely. ACC will be busy.

So I chopped down the trees because they were blocking the endless lovely autumn sun from my reading chair in the garden. I’ve got it set up now, ( the chair I mean not the sun) with drink stand, foot rest and the most comfy cushions. It’s still warm here in Foxta Del Sol- and the sunsets! My goodness- Facebook is awash with everyone’s attempts to capture the uncapturable - the true awe of the sun setting over the sea.

So - back to the DIY - more ladder adventures in the bedroom as well. I’ve repainted my bedroom. I bought the paint at the last minute of the last day before we all got shut in forever so the guys at the paint shop were under a bit of pressure - I reckon they forgot to tint it. Even my experienced and finely tuned eye for colour can’t see any difference between the white ceiling and the white walls. Too bad - it’s ok and I didn’t fall off the ladder- or chop off my arm. All I managed was a bit of muscle strain - ceiling painting is a bastard.

And while I’m at it- I’ve invented a new craft- framing fabric and hanging it on the walls- look carefully at those pictures !
